Schedule |
Assignments |
I’ll be teaching one section of Differential Equations during Spring Semester 2012. To determine whether you are in fact enrolled in George Barrick’s section of this course, compare the course information in your schedule to see whether your section number of MATH 410 has the call number (20333). Section (20333) meets at 08:00 MWF in BETZ 028.

Text
The text for Elementary Differential Equations (MATH 410) is An Introduction to Differential Equations & their Applications by S.J. Farlow (ISBN 97804-8644595-3). It’s available from the Walsh Bookstore (for $45.95 new/$34.45 used/$22.50 rental). Another good source for this particular textbook is the Dover Publications web-site. When using e-commerce sites, you’ll need to wait a couple days for shipping. Keep in mind that Walsh Bookstore will buy back relatively undamaged books in May at approximately 15% of the original retail price (though not e-books), and so it’s not a bad idea to keep your books in good condition.
Calculators
A scientific calculator is required for this course. The recommended
calculators are TI-82, TI-92, TI-83 Plus, TI-84 Plus, TI-89 and
TI-89 Titanium, though any graphing calculator that has some programming
capabilities should suffice. The recommended calculators may be used on
tests and on the Final Examination. Calculators, cell phones, PDA’s or
laptop computers that might either store text notes or host wireless
network links may not be used during quizzes or tests.
Homework
Daily homework from the assignment sheet will not be turned in for class credit, though it is these examples that will be covered every day in class. Six short homework assignments that require more careful write-ups will be turned in for 20 points each. These assignments may involve some graphing and numerical computations, and students are required to submit these in a timely fashion in the form of typed hardcopy. Students may need to use either Ms. Wordpad or Ms. Office Word with the Equation Editor 3.0 in order to type up homework submissions that include some mathematical formulas.
Final Examination
The final examination meets on Wednesday April 25, 2012 from 8:00 to 10:00 a.m. in room BETZ 028. All of the information presented here, as well as more detailed things regarding grading policies etc. can be found in the class syllabus, the class schedule and class assignments.
MATH 410 Homework Archive
All of the homeworks will be posted here within a few days after they’ve occurred in class. All students are encouraged to look through these old homeworks as a study guide.
